India Warns Banks and Fintech Companies Against Rising AI-Powered Cyberattacks
India's cybercrime authorities have warned banks, fintech companies and financial institutions about increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks powered by artificial intelligence. The attacks exploit software vulnerabilities and weaknesses in digital payment infrastructure.

India's cybersecurity authorities have issued a warning to financial institutions about the growing threat of AI-powered cyberattacks targeting banks, non-banking financial companies and fintech organisations.
According to the advisory, cybercriminals are increasingly using artificial intelligence agents to automate attacks, identify unpatched software vulnerabilities and exploit incorrectly configured IT infrastructure.
These attacks can target automated fund-disbursement systems and payment APIs, creating significant risks for financial institutions and their customers.
The warning highlights the need for stronger cybersecurity infrastructure, regular software updates, transaction monitoring and improved verification systems.
Authorities have also recommended daily and per-transaction transfer limits, beneficiary verification and monitoring of unusually rapid transactions.
The advisory reflects the growing importance of AI-driven cybersecurity measures as India's digital financial ecosystem continues to expand.
