India has taken another major step towards strengthening its naval capabilities with the signing of contracts worth ₹53,866.50 crore for eight next-generation corvettes. The agreements have been signed with Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers and Goa Shipyard Limited. The vessels are expected to strengthen India's maritime security and improve its operational capabilities across strategically important waters. The project also supports the government's focus on domestic defence manufacturing and self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The contracts are significant for India's shipbuilding industry because they create opportunities for domestic manufacturers, engineering companies and supporting defence suppliers.
